I have used Lawn Boy 10646 mower a few times now and love it. I don’t mow my lawns on a regular basis. I usually wait for it to get about 6 inches high first. I used this mower without the bag utilizing it’s mulching capabilities. It was able to digest the tall grass as well as all the leaves I neglected to rake up first. The speed is controlled by how much you depress/squeeze the bail, which activates the drive system. The bail is like the accelerator on your car or truck. You can press on the gas pedal a little and barely move the vehicle, or you can stomp the pedal and really move on.

I had no trouble starting it even after it had been sitting for a while without fuel additives. The self propelling action took a bit of time for me to get used to(Dad always bought the crappy push mowers)but works great. I actually don’t mind mowing the lawn now. Well yeah, I guess I still hate it.
